MONUMENT TO
THE STONEMASON
Sculpture tribute to the stonemason Macaelense elaborated in 1976
The central axis of this tribute-monument to the stonemason is a bust, sculpted in a block of marble, located at the confluence of two streets. This sculpture is located in a semicircular square of white marble, against the backdrop of which we can appreciate four wonderful bas-reliefs made by hand by different artisans of the municipality. Externally the enclosure is delimited with a beautiful white marble railing with turned cylindrical columns that bring continuity and harmony to the whole. Under the bust highlights an inscription that is adorned with a laurel ridge, a mallet and a pointer, symbols of the stonemason as well as a poetry:
Tú arrancas brazo y alma cada día,
Latido a la sierra noble y fuerte
Luchando a dentelladas con la vida,
Ahuyentas los susurros de la muerte.
El viento de esperanza, gris y blanco,
Se esconde por la altura desdentada,
Herido por el hierro de tu brazo
Y ahogado por la sed de tu constancia.
Detén por un instante tus labores
Espada de las rocas seculares
Y el gesto sufridor, sencillo y noble
Al alcance de lo recóndito del aire.
Y así, águila al fin sobre la altura,
Cansada la mirada, el horizonte recibe tu frente
La bravura y cante la grandeza de tu nombre.
Que tuya esa parcela de la gloria
Forjada en el calor de tu quebranto
Porque es de tus esfuerzos la victoria
Porque eres tú, cantero, el oro blanco.
