Since a long time ago, Macael marble, it is considered a luxurious and majestic material that exceptionally withstands the passage of time, it has been used by ancient civilizations, going through the most important periods in our history to the present day.

History
of our work
Did you know that in Macael the stonemason’s trade is passed down from father to son, at least from the 10th century to the present day?
In the Prehistory, they were made idols and ornaments mainly carved on marble stones collected from the streams and they were part of the funerary troussuses.
In Roman times, the quarries were imperial property. From them, they extracted the whitest and highest quality marble for works such as the Roman Theater of Mérida, the mosaics in Itálica (Seville), the sculture of good sherpherd of Gador, the head of Vespasiano of Écija or the Mercury of the Museum of Sevilla.
But it doesn´t end there…In Arab times, Macael marble was frequently used in his civil and religious works. Floors, capitals, baths and columns of Medina Azahara; The Cordoba’s mosque; the Alcazaba of Almería or the Alhambra of Granada, within which it is worth highlighting the 124 columns with their different capitals and the fountain that gives its name to the Patio de los Leones. In the Modern Age, there was a resurgence in the marble extraction sector, this being the preferred material for the construction of cathedrals and other architectural monuments of the time.
